Wormald is involved in the mining industry with branches located near all major mining centres. Wormald is able to provide a personalised service to mining clients.
The company's product and service capability extends to the fire protection of:
- Vehicle systems
- Process plants
- Underground conveyors
- Static & mobile plant
- Draglines
- Workshops
- Substations, MCC rooms & switchrooms.
Wormald also specialises in explosion protection, supply and installation of portable fire protection equipment, diesel or electric pumpsets and fire training.
Wormald's specialised protection of mining machinery, for both open cast and underground is second to none. Protection of vehicles can be achieved by three methods; either using a foam system, a dry chemical system or a Twin Agent sytem. All three systems come with automatic and manual options.
Applications:
Typical applications include:
Surface Mining
- Crawling tractors
- Ore haulers
- Front end loaders
- Graders
- Draglines
- Shovel trucks
Underground Mining
- Roof bolters
- Shuttle cars
- Loaders
- Drilling equipment
- Cutters
Products:
The products used by Wormald to protect mining equipment are:
- Dry Chemical – Ansul A-101 Vehicle Fire Protection Systems.
- Foam – Wormald Foam Vehicle Fire Suppression System.
- Ansul – Twin Agent (Dry Chemical/Foam Systems).
Operation:
Automatic operation and detection can be achieved by three methods.
- Pneumatic Detection Tube In this case a pressurised pneumatic tube is run around the "hot spots" (fire risk areas) of the machinery. In the event of a fire, the pressurised pneumatic tube melts and releases pressure. This loss in pressure will activate the extinguishing system, hence the fire suppression medium (foam or dry chemical) is distributed through the pipework network to the discharge nozzles, where it is directed at the fire.
- Probe type Heat Detector With this type of detection, the rapid increase in temperature of a heat detector would activate the system.
- Linear Fire Wire Linear fire wire is distributed throughout the hazard area. In the event of a fire, the “fire wire” melts, thus fusing two wires together and forming an electrical circuit. This action causes the release of the fire suppression medium through the distribution pipework and nozzles.
